Santorini on a budget: what does 7 days really cost?

Santorini is easy to imagine and harder to budget for. You see a terrace above the sea, a small pool and breakfast brought to the room. Then you start searching and discover how much the view changes the price.

You don't need that exact room to enjoy the island. But you do need to be clear about the holiday you're pricing.

Here, seven days means six nights for two adults travelling from the UK. The budget is an illustrative planning exercise for a modest stay outside peak demand, not a live package quote or a claim about average prices. Exact dates, departure airport and room availability can change the result substantially.

A working budget: £1,700 for two

This is the amount I would test first in a search, using the following spending limits.

That comes to £850 each. The £90 room figure is a target to search against, not a verified rate. If your preferred dates only offer suitable rooms at £140, accommodation alone becomes £840 and the same plan rises to £2,000.

Food at £60 a day for two also needs some intention: simple breakfasts, modest lunches and selective spending at dinner. It doesn't describe seven days of cocktails and long meals at the most expensive tables.

If you mean seven nights rather than six, add the extra room night and another day's spending. Using this model, that is at least £150 before additional activities or charges.

Where I would look for a room

I would compare Kamari and Perissa with accommodation around Fira, paying particular attention to whether the price includes a caldera view. This is a comparison to make on your dates, not a rule that one village will always be cheaper. A good room with breakfast and a convenient location may beat a lower room-only rate once you add the rest.

Keep transport from taking over the budget

Before renting a car for the whole stay, work out which days actually require one. Santorini's public bus operator lists routes between Fira and places including Oia, Kamari, Perissa and the airport. The £110 transport allowance is deliberately modest. It assumes you can keep UK airport travel affordable and avoid relying on private transfers. If you need taxis in both countries, revise it before booking.

Spend deliberately on the part you'll remember

A budget trip still needs something you are looking forward to. It might be a particular meal, a boat trip or a room you enjoy returning to. Choose it early and price it properly, rather than booking several extras because they appear on every itinerary.

You can give the rest of the week a slower shape: a beach day, time in a village, an evening walk, breakfast without a deadline. There is no obligation to turn each day into a separate purchase.

For this version of Santorini, £1,700 is a sensible number to test, with flexibility if the real quotes disagree.
